Running since 2004, Dubai Desert Rock Festival is the first (and so far the only) festival to bring heavyweight rock acts
to the Middle East.
Since its launch, which had just two bands performing - The Rasmus and Juliana Down - (headliners
Limp Bizkit cancelled at the last minute), the festival has grown into a full two day event. Machine Head, Sepultura and Megadeth
have all appeared but the most controversy has been caused by The Darkness and their idols Saxon. Middle Eastern culture demanded
that the former lose their spandex and the latter refrain from appearing at all, on account of the lyrics to their song 'Crusader'.
Organised
by Center Stage Management (CSM), the festival also features a skatepark show, "crazy" rock hair designers, airbrush tattoo
artists, graffiti boards for budding artists to make their mark and a customised car show.
