The event, which is held at a Tudor castle on the remote island of Lewis, has grown significantly since it began in 1996 and has become well-known for its party atmosphere.

A host of international performers like Van Morrison and The Proclaimers are complemented by a selection of local artists and Celtic acts and last year the festival broke the record for the largest ever audience to hear a live Celtic performance.

Aside form the music the event offers a selection of workshops in Gaelic song, the fiddle, the whistle and photography. Revellers can also enjoy sailing trips, a historical tour of Stornoway as well as street theatre and circus activates.less
