Why: Despite parting with his cohorts 'The Special Sauce', the laid back, sloppy blues of Jack Johnson's mucker, G Love, promises to be the perfect afternoon nod-along soundtrack that'll make the sunshine on your shoulders feel even warmer.

19. Evil Nine
Where: East Coast Dance Tent
When: Friday, 1.30pm
Why: The most disturbingly innovative act to emerge from the breaks scene in recent years, Evil Nine are as nasty and brooding as the name suggests, big haunting bass-lines infected by schizoid alien effects. Hide from the midday sun and get lost in the darkness of the dance tent.

18. Roots Manuva
Where: Jazz World
When: Friday, 9.40pm
Why: 'Cristal'-cool with the voice of velvet being crushed by bison on bass steroids, Rodney Smith is the smoothest dude in UK hip-hop, shunning the traditional bo!-bullshit in favour of sturdy slabs of atmospheric rap. Guaranteed to be a Jazz World highlight.

17. London Electricity
Where: West Coast Dance Tent
When: Friday, 3pm
Why: Realising towards the end of the '90s that drum'n'bass was getting far too predictable and an increasingly dull experience, London Electricity decided to pick up some instruments and do it live-stylee. Now with a crew of amazingly talented musicians and vocalists, it's a true sonic spectacle that brightens the mood as much as it batters the senses.

16. Bloc Party
Where: Pyramid Stage
When: Friday, 7.30pm
Why: This year's Franz Ferdinand (despite sounding nothing like them), Bloc Party are the one band who truly will be blown away as you cheer every tune and chant every line. An edgy debut album, packed full of art-poppy anthems in the making, is destined to finally find its true purpose at Glasto.

15. The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain
Where: Acoustic Stage
When: Sunday, 5pm
Why: Reworking classics of rock 'n' roll, punk, jazz and classical music via a load of ukuleles, The Ukes' brand of onstage humour is as black and smart as their tuxedos. Quirky, adventurous and crowd interactive, they're simply made for Glastonbury and something completely different.

14. British Sea Power
Where: Left Field Stage
When: Friday, 11.45pm
Why: Brighton bewilderers British Sea Power fit the spirit of Glastonbury to a tee; quirky, adventurous, and wildly unpredictable, see them headlining the Virtual Festivals evening on the Left Field Stage. Bamboo, foliage, ornamental animals, and assorted shrubs are all optional, but highly recommended.

13. Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Where: Acoustic Stage
When: Sunday, 1.40pm
Why: After suffering the Glastonbury Town Band and some belly dancers, pick yourself up with the guitar duelling mastery of this pair. Rodrigo Y Gabriela are technically brilliant and electrifying live, blending flamenco, Mexican folk and jazz with a complete disregard for conventional boundaries.

12. Ian Brown
Where: Other Stage
When: Sunday, 10.40pm
Why: Threatening to rival Paul McCartney's mass singalong last year with a selection of Stone Roses classics, Ian Brown has the chance of cementing himself in the eternal Glastonbury hall of fame, although much depends on him still being coherent by nightfall and resisting the temptation to knock out Chris Moyles backstage.

11. The Dead 60s
Where:  Other Stage
When: Friday, 10.20am
Why: Bands bestowed the honour of opening the festival on the main two stages are basically being told they're gonna be massive - just look at Kasabian and The Darkness for proof. Boasting bigger ska than a Jordan boob job, it's The Clash meets The Specials taking on a bright new world.
