Original festival spirit alive and well at Sunrise Celebration

United Kingdom United Kingdom | | 20 April 2007

And you won't find it in greater abundance today than at the Sunrise Celebration - an enchanting festival in Somerset. Supporters of the festival claim that it evokes the spirit of Glastonbury's early years, and these would include Michael Eavis himself, who has said of the event:

"The Sunrise Celebration seems to me to be something like it was here about 35 years ago, if you can’t get our tickets and you want a bit of something a little less frantic and hectic then have a go at this show just down the road from Worthy Farm

The Sunrise Celebration is held on Bearley Farm, South Somerset from 31st May to 4th June 2007. Produced by Glastonbury-based Family Gathering Ltd. (run by a chap who calls himself "Sunbird", pictured right, with Eavis), it actually includes much of the content of Glastonbury Festival’s Green Fields.

This year's line up is suitably inspirational with 100’s of live bands playing on 12 stages, including Alabama 3, The Ozric Tentacles, Eat Static, Dreadzone and The Egg with unique and eclectic circus, cinemas, art, games, dance, workshops, and much more in the brilliantly diverse areas of the Sunrise Festival arena.

The strong environmental, creative and community ethos of Sunrise has even attracted the support of legendary Daily Mail Astrologer and best selling author Jonathan Cainer:

Sunrise is a glorious coming together of the best of alternative culture that makes this land of ours such a glorious place to live! I very much enjoyed last year’s event and eagerly await this year!

Jonathan loved the award winning festival so much he actually put up his own money to help it into its second year.

Running on 100% renewable energy, Sunrise are working in conjunction with the South Somerset District Council on sustainability and believe the Festival is leading the way in sustainability on the UK festival scene!

Many boutique festivals have eco credentials” says Sarah Turner in the Observer, “But Sunrise Celebration’s are stronger than most.

At the UK Festival Awards last year the impressive environmental credentials were recognised when the festival won the Shelter Award for Social Responsibility

"Sunrise Celebration sets a new benchmark when it comes to music festivals operating sustainably and engaging effectively with the local community. We're thrilled to recognise those festival organisers who not only put on a great party but also used their events to bring about positive social change.” -  Shelter Chief Executive Adam Sampson
