Gallows @ Download 2007

United Kingdom United Kingdom | by Daniel Fahey | 09 June 2007

Virtual Festivals: Have you been to Download before?
Frank Carter: "No, this is my first time, I’m a Download virgin."

VF: Are you staying all weekend?
FC: "Yeah, we’re here, we’ve got a van parked up somewhere, so we’re going to be hanging about."

VF: What’s the most rock n’ roll thing you’ll be doing this weekend?
FC: "God, I don’t know, probably hanging out with The Scare to be honest, they are rock n’ roll in person. They’re like the Motley Crue of our generation. We’re not going to bother to go see the Crue because The Scare are here.  They live it, they are it, they live and breathe rock n’ roll.  They’re one of my favourite bands at the minute, so if you hang out with them you know the shit’s going to go down."

VF: So would you say they were the most ‘Download’ band here?
FC: "They’re most suited to Monsters of Rock. We’re trying to get over this Download thing, I’m not a fan of the Download brand. We’re here to say bring back Monsters of Rock and having The Scare on the bill doesn’t hurt."

VF: Is there anybody else you want to see?
FC: "Yeah, we’re going to catch Turbo Negro and The Ghost Of A Thousand hopefully. I want to catch a ton of people, I want to catch Slayer, I want to catch My Chemical Romance tonight. It’s going to be awesome."

VF:  There’s been talk of My Chemical Romance getting bottled. Is there anyone on the bill who deserves to get bottled?
FC: "Us, probably! I don’t know. There’s a ton of shit bands on this year, a ton of bands who deserve it more than My Chemical Romance, you know they’re fucking doing it for themselves and they write epic music. It touches me way more than some shit metal. I think like, I’m not going to go through and pick some bands but yeah, there’s people a lot more deserving than My Chemical Romance."

VF: Finally finish the sentence: “At festivals I always…
FC: "Get in trouble. I always get in a lot of fucking trouble; I’ve got a big mouth and little arms.  I always find myself fighting someone or other. I don’t really like festivals either, so yeah, I’ll be in trouble, I guarantee it."

Gallows played the Dimebag Darrell Stage at Download on Saturday, 9 June, at 3.50pm.
