Iggy Pop at the Isle of Wight

Virgin Radio's Tania Snuggs caught up with the punk legend, still limping and drenched in sweat after his highly charged main stage performance. We tagged along.

Tania Snuggs: how was it? You’ve just come off stage. It was absolutely incredible.
Iggy Pop: It felt good. It got a bit ‘shouty’ towards the end I thought but er, until about song 13 it felt good and the band sounded good

And what were the audience like?
They sang so well with a lot of brio, you know, and beautiful faces and er, good spirit.

Okay so it’s nice to be back on the Island. What’s next for you guys then?
We’re going to Ireland.

Plans to play kind of festivals like this?
No it’s our own gig.

Okay would you like to play more festivals like this? How much do you buzz off the crowd, I mean, fifty thousand people out there?
You buzz! You buzz and you watch. You know, you watch what gets them and um, what else gets them, it’s of interest.

Okay after all these years then you still get that buzz on stage. I mean the energy you had was absolutely incredible. Do you get that from them?
Yeah but I mean I could do it drunk alone in a bar too! It wouldn’t matter.
