The Strongbow Rooms @ Big Chill

With a dry and sunny weekend predicted, expect some bright and breezy tunes in The Strongbow Rooms by day, before darkness falls and with it some hard beats to keep the party going well into the night.

The Big Chill is one of the most distinct festivals in the UK, priding itself on a very select music policy that literally bulldozes new ground, churning dance, dub, raggae, funk, and blues into something you can swing your hips to, as easily as lie flat on your face to. Full of new, wierd and wonderful acts you won't have ever heard of before, it's a weekend about discovery, about DJs and live acts who dare to do daft things, about you trying to be even dafter, and about wandering around meeting new people and hearing alternative sounds, safe in the knowledge you'll somehow just bump into your mates when you want to. Such a festival philosophy can be found nowhere better than The Strongbow Rooms, a venue that's made a huge cultural contribution to the festival over the last few years with some of the finest and most inventive DJs on the circuit.

This year is no exception. From the wildboy breaks of Soul Of Man to the old-skool reggae of DJ Derek, from the stellar electro of Cosmos to the deep dub of Different Drummer, and from the twisted funk of Bent to the downtempo draw of Max Sedgley, The Strongbow Rooms will once again be beating a drum of its own in the Big Chill big band, manufacturing missiles of music and whacking them down your pants! David McAlmont is even going to be there (doing what we're not entirely sure), and if you want just one tip from VF, go check out A Man Called Adam on Sunday morning presenting classical music in a very special way.
