Organisers have been looking for a new location for several years and are now confident the estate will become the festival's permanent home. Creamfields was forced to move from its original home at the old Liverpool Airport site in Speke due to the amount of development work being carried out. Following an extensive search, Daresbury Estate was favoured because of its scale, access and availability.
The move was rubber stamped by Halton Borough Council at a meeting last night.
Cream chief executive James Barton said: “We are naturally delighted that our licence application has been successful. We were always confident in the strength of the application and we are now looking forward to putting on what will be a superb show. In addition, our team have unrivalled expertise and many years of experience in staging major outdoor events such as this and in ensuring the safety and well-being of all those attending, as well as those residents living nearby.”
Up to 45,000 people are expected to attend this year's event to watch such big-name acts as The Prodigy, Goldfrapp, Gnarls Barkley and The Zutons, plus more than 100 world class DJs. Click here for the full lineup.
The move has been welcomed by a cross section of the community with a recent independent survey of over 1,000 residents in Halton and Warrington showing that more than 90 per cent were in favour of the event coming to Daresbury. There has also been a positive response from the local business community and from tourism leaders.
According to a statement by Cream, Halton and Warrington are likely to share in an economic windfall of more than £3 million after a 2004 study by The Mersey Partnership estimated that each person attending the event spent more than £90. Businesses expected to benefit include bus, taxi and rail companies, pubs, restaurants, hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfast accommodation.
Tickets are still on sale for this year's Creamfields, priced £54.50, and are available HERE.
