British Sea Power Curate Fort Festival
Fort Rox Festival will take place on Saturday 12 August, held in the parade ground within the historic
Newhaven Fort walls.
The first event will be hosted by British Sea Power who have handpicked support from The Duke Spirit,
My Latest Novel and The Research, plus fellow Brighton artists Charlottefield and
Jacob’s Stories. Opening the event will be an under 18’s band from the Starfish Youth Music
Project, also chosen by British Sea Power themselves.
The festival will be hosted by a different band each year and will
incorporate national and local musicians.
The festival location itself is built up on a cliff and is the largest work
of defence ever constructed in Sussex, having stood firm throughout two world wars.
Following
its abandonment as a military fortification, Newhaven Fort suffered years of incredible neglect and dereliction but has now
been restored to provide an award-winning visitor attraction.
Organiser Lisa Maisey, of Lout Promotions, said: “We’re really looking forward to the festival, the venue is absolutely incredible. We’re very spoilt in Brighton with lots of great music venues and events so it’s really nice to take this to an area in Sussex where the music scene is not as well developed."
There will be various other attractions including guided tours of the Fort perimeter courtesy of the local Cadets, authentic war time swing bands and much more. The Romney Shelter will be transformed into a giant beer tent (for over 18's only) and there will be soft drinks and food available onsite from the Searchlight cafe.
Tickets cost £10 and are available here. Ticket holders must be over 16 years old unless accompanied by an adult.
