The Police announce festival date
The reformed trio, who announced their reunion by performing at Sunday's Grammies in Los Angeles, have paved the way for European festival dates with a lengthy, but clutter-free, tour of America and Canada.
Their patchy schedule leaves the door open for an appearance at Glastonbury, with the band having an eight-day gap between their dates in Phoenix (18 June) and Dallas (26 June). Glastonbury Festival spans the 22-24 June weekend.
The only longer break comes during the first few weeks of July (2-22), meaning appearances at T In The Park and Roskilde could also be on the cards. The Scottish festival is expected to make its first lineup announcement next week.
A rumoured headline show from The Police at Hyde Park Calling is all but ruled out, considering Sting and co play New Orleans and St Louis over the same weekend. While the Isle Of Wight Festival also looks doubtful, as the band are due to play in Denver on the Saturday (9 June).
Of course, The Police have the sway to hold huge shows of their own, and who knows what kind of sums they are demanding, but Sting played Glastonbury in 1997 and is known to be a huge fan of the festival.
Michael Eavis recently teased Virtual Festivals about something "very special" he had planned
for Friday's Pyramid Stage, a certain "supergroup" he claimed no one would ever predict.
Only time will tell...
The north American tour dates are as follows:
Vancouver GM Place (28 May)
Seattle Key Arena (6 June)
Denver Pepsi Center (9)
Las Vegas MGM Garden Arena (15)
Bonnaroo
Festival (16)
Phoenix US Airwaves Arena (18)
Dallas American Airlines Center (26)
New Orleans Arena (30)
St Louis
Scottrade Center (2 July)
Toronto Air Canada Center (22)
Montreal Bell Centre (25)
Boston Fenway Park (28)
New
York Madison Square Garden (1-3 August)
The Police have not played a 'proper' gig since they split in 1986. They reformed for one off performances to celebrate their induction into the Rock'N'Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003.
