T In The Park 2007: Bloggin' Balado - Saturday
United Kingdom | |
07 July 2007
Saturday
10.40pm
The party's in full swing as the dusk looms. Following
blinding sets by Arcade Fire and Razorlight, it's the turn of T In The
Park favourites The Killers to headline Saturday night. It may be a strangely
dressed yank running the show on stage, but with anthems like 'Smile Like You Mean It' delighting the crowd, who cares?
9.55pm
My Chemical Romance pack the Radio 1/NME Stage and play a set almost identical to the
one they played at Download. Yawn!
6.40pm
Amy Winehouse has cancelled her set on the Radio 1/NME
Stage, prompting rumours about her health. The tabloids have been rife all week about her boozing, perhaps she realised
she had no chance of keeping pace with the Scots.
5.25pm
Manchester legends James
treat fans to a track that's so new it doesn't have a title and singer Tim Booth reads the lyrics from a sheet
of paper. It sounds great all the same. The set ends with a mini stage invasion but it's invited dancers from the
crowd only. We won't have any Iggy Pop chaos here.
4.10pm
Festival director Geoff Ellis tells
us that even the local farmers were stunned by the extent of the downpours in recent days. The heavy rain meant
that several car parks had to be closed, campsites were flooded and many fans were left stranded.
2.13pm
The Radio 1/NME Stage gets off to a flyer with pounding sets from Blood Red Shoes and Dogs before Little
Man Tate excite an unusually large early crowd with their Jam-esque sounds. People are still grumbling though, swapping
tales about yesterday's travel horrors. An irate David McKerlie, 25, from Glasgow, tells us: "I was stuck for
five hours, it was really frustrating and I missed almost all of yesterday's bands. I can understand why the extra checks
were needed though."
11.45am
Morning dawns to the smug
knowledge that we still have another two days of wall to wall music, a first at T, and it already feels like we've had
a fair share of fun. In fact it feels like we've been here for ages, but probably not any more so that the cider swilling
band of misfits 'camping' next to us who've clearly been up all night. Good luck lads, there's a long
way to go.
