First acts for Cambridge Folk Festival

Billy Bragg, KD Lang, Seth Lakeman, Martha Wainwright and 3 Daft Monkeys are among the first acts confirmed for Cambridge Folk Festival.

The Levellers, Joan Armatrading and folk collective Imagine Village have also been unveiled as part of the bill, which mixes contemporary and traditional folk with roots music.

Laura Marling, Tunng and Noah And The Whale will also play the four-day event, a sign of the festival embracing the new breed of folk musicians crossing over into the mainstream.

Cambridge Folk Festival takes place at Cherry Hinton Hall Grounds, Cambridge, from Thursday 31 July until Sunday 3 August. More acts will be announced in due course but the line up so far reads:

Billy Bragg, John Hiatt, Judy Collins, Allen Toussaint, Seth Lakeman, Eric Bibb, Eliza Carthy, Martha Wainwright, The Waifs, Altan, Peatbog Faeries, Tim O'Brien, Karine Polwart, Michael McGoldrick Band, Laura Marling, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba, Tunng, Kila, Devon Sproule, Chris Wood, Cherryholmes, Brian McNeill, Mauvais Sort, Lisa Knapp, Hot 8 Brass Band, Beoga, Grupo Fantasma, Frank Turner, Whapweasel, Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson, Elizabeth Cook, The Chair, 3 Daft Monkeys, Noah & The Whale, Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller, 6 Day Riot, Kidsamonium, Findlay Napier & The Bar Room Mountaineers, Megson, The Shivers.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Sunday 11 May and are expected to sell out fast, as has been the case in recent years. A campsite is situated near the stages, which also provides its own entertainment and a children's area. There is a per tent charge for camping.
