One of Glastonbury's worst ever kept secrets, the American star will perform on the Pyramid Stage on the closing day of the festival (29 June).
Despite being rumoured for months - and first revealed on Virtual Festivals.com - organisers have yet to officially confirm him, instead leaving a gap in the line up for a "special guest".
But the singer has confirmed he will definitely play the prestigious slot, sharing Sunday's stage with fellow veterans The Verve, Leonard Cohen and Gilbert O'Sullivan.
He told BBC 6Music: "Well I know it's one of the ultimate festivals and maybe the biggest. I've heard about it for years and it just sounded right. It just sounded like, this time let's have some fun and play the Glastonbury festival and y'know, hope that we're not laughed out of the country."
Diamond will follow in the footsteps of legends Shirley Bassey, Brian Wilson and Johnny Cash, who have all played the Sunday afternoon slot.
Asked about his late friend, Cash, he said: “Well, those are tough footsteps to follow in, but I think we'll have some fun. That's basically why I want to do it."
Glastonbury Festival 2008 takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset, from 27-29 June. Click HERE for the full line up.
