04 June 2008
While the likes of Mr C and Tim Sheridan battle it out in the club tents, golf and music lovers will be invited to combine their passions at the world's first festival golf competition.
Hosted
by The Secret Golf Society, the “The Wickerman Challenge” will feature a nine-hole golf
course with participants having to negotiate some unique hazards.
Obstacles expected to have golfers beating the
course in frustration include fairways the length of normal rough, sheep hurdles, hay bales and other assorted agricultural
paraphernalia.
The winner of the Wickerman Challenge will go through to a major celebrity challenge in 2009 with
the chance to win an all expenses paid trip to golf’s most prestigious tournament, The Masters in Augusta, USA.
Described as “Golf for people who love golf but hate all the crap that goes with it”, Secret Golf is
the latest quirky activity on offer at the Wickerman Festival.
Taking place on the 25-26
July the family friendly weekender will also boast a mohican world record attempt, make a silent movie in a day, a water powered
bovine and a mountain bike skills course..
Festival Director James Gilroy said: “Secret
Golf appears to be golf but not as we know it, leave behind the dress codes and ridiculous club rules and take part in the
surreal spectacle of golf at a music festival.”
“I understand that the bands are being invited to play
in the challenge so people may get the opportunity to thrash their favourite musician during the challenge.”
In addition to the more off the wall activities an eclectic mix of musicians such as KT Tunstall,
Gary Numan, Annie Nightingale, Sham 69 and Bez will appear
on the festival's eight stages. Full line up HERE.
The Wickerman Festival takes place at East Kirkcarswell
Farm, nr Kirkcudbright in Dumfries & Galloway. Weekend tickets are priced at £75 including camping and
parking and children under 12 admitted free. Buy HERE.
