Reverend and the Makers preach at Ibiza Rocks

The Sheffield band headlined the latest instalment of the festival, which runs throughout the summer, following a DJ set from ex-Arctic Monkey bassist Andy Nicholson and current drummer Matt Helders.

The six-piece frantically ran through tracks from their top ten album 'The State Of Things' with the enthusiastic crowd singing along to hits 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World' and set closer 'He Said He Loved Me'.

"The next track is called why do Brits act like pricks when they come to Spain," said McClure as the band launched into '18-30' before adding, “show me a peace sign if that’s not you,” with most of the crowd obliging.

The stage, which sits in the centre of the hotel next to the swimming pool, became littered during the set as fans took to throwing toilet roll from their apartment balconies. "It feels like an Argentinean football game with all the bog roll," commented McClure before quipping, "I hope you've got something to wipe your arse with."

The band then debuted new track 'Silence Is Talking' which sounded like dub version of 'The Only One I Know' by The Charlatans, though it did receive a surprisingly rapturous response.

Nicholson and Helders then took to the decks again for the after party to play well-known tracks like 'Hey Boy Hey Girl' by The Chemical Brothers and 'Beat It' by Michael Jackson as well as newer tracks from Santogold and The Cool Kids.

However, despite their best efforts, many of the festival-goers left early to hit the super clubs in town leaving the dance floor empty and the club feeling slightly like a wedding reception.

Earlier in the evening indie-poppers The Clik Clik and Cassette Jam both performed to sparse crowds.

Ibiza Rocks continues to run at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, San Antonio, Ibiza until 9 September with The Streets set to headline the next instalment of the festival on 19 August.
