The Killers preview new track at Reading

The Killers performed an extravagent headline set on the second day at Reading Festival (Saturday), previewing a brand new song.

The Las Vegas band played their only European festival of the year, discounting their Leeds show tonight (Sunday), drawing a massive crowd to the main stage.

In the process of recording their third album, Brandon Flowers and co gave a sneak preview by debuting new song 'Spaceman'.

The show opened with 'For Reasons Unknown', before Flowers addressed the crowd, saying: "Hello we are called The Killers, brought to you by fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada".

Playing in front of a backdrop which featured the artwork from rarities album 'Sawdust', the set contained several of the tracks included, such as Joy Division cover 'Shadowplay', 'Sweet Talk' and 'Tranquilize'.

'Smile Like You Mean It' kicked off a mass singalong before the singer said: "We're going to pick it up a notch, we're going to steal some souls, shake some bones, get some meat".

Fireworks greeted the song 'When You Were Young', before Flowers performed a stripped down version of 'Sam's Town' on the piano.

'Mr Brightside' closed the main part of the show before the band reappeared for an encore which included 'Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine', 'This River Is Wild' and regular show closer 'All These Things That I've Done'.

Earlier on, Bloc Party dedicated their set to bassist Gordon Moakes, who is on paternity leave, as they played new tracks from third album 'Intimacy'.

Current single 'Mercury' and 'One Month Off' were greeted by an energetic crowd, as were favourites 'Banquet' and 'Two More Years'.

Singer Kele Okereke was forced to tell the crowd off for demanding a girl caught on camera take her top off, saying: "Come on, this is still a Bloc Party gig".

The words to Prince's 'I Would Die For You' were worked into the dance-fused 'Flux' before the set was brought to a close with 'Helicopters'.

The band then performed a rare encore with Kele announcing: "It's a little bit cheeky but we thought we have to play the song that started it all off," before breaking into 'She's Hearing Voices'.

Earlier on, Editors and We Are Scientists played the main stage with the latter playing a cheeky cover version of 'All The She Wants' by Ace Of Bass.
