Glastonbury 2004 License Submitted

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has submitted the application for next year's festival, scheduled to take place on June 25, 26 and 27 2004.

The application for a public entertainments license, which has just been lodged, will be considered by Mendip District Regulatory Board before the end of the year.

If granted a license, the festival will take place, as usual, over the last weekend in June, with gates open from Wednesday 23 June. The first stage in the application process will be a public meeting at the MDC office in Shepton Mallet.

Glastonbury has had to fight to secure its license in recent years, in light of overcrowding caused by fencejumpers, and crime reports. However, a high profile campaign to improve security (incorporating the new perimeter 'superfence') have been extremely successful over the last two festivals, resulting in far fewer reported crimes and injuries.

This year may also see the introduction of an identity-tagged 'anti-tout' ticket system, following the rapid sell-out of this year's event, although nothing has yet been confirmed.

The Glastonbury 2004 rumour mill is already churning, with Prince, Oasis, Doves and Damien Rice in the frame.
